Publishing and Announcing Your Letterbox Clues
by Silent Doug
The Letterboxing North America (LbNA) Web site is the primary catalog of letterboxes in the U.S. You can browse for clues by state on the site, as well as enter and maintain your own clues. Even if you maintain your clues on your own web site, you can enter them on the LbNA web site to make them easy for other letterboxers to find.
To post a clue on the site, you must first complete the registration process.
- Go to http://www.letterboxing.org, and then click the Member Services link at the bottom.
- Click the Sign up for a lifetime membership link.
- Enter your email address, password and your name. (Many letterboxers enter their trail name in the space labeled First Name).
- Click the link in the confirmation email that you'll receive to complete your registration.
To submit your clue, return to the site and log in in with your email address and password.
Then go to the Submit Clues or Member Services page, and click Add a letterbox.
There you enter the name of the letterbox, the state, county and nearest city; the number of boxes (if other than 1), and the placement date.
Use the "link" field only if you host your clue on a different web page (such as a Geocities page or personal homepage with your ISP); otherwise, just leave that field blank and either type directly into the Clue text field or copy and paste the clues from a document on your computer.
Check the box at the bottom if you want to announce the new box on the special Yahoo letterboxing announcement group that lets people know a new box has been planted. (Click on the link provided above or on the new box page if you'd like to sign up for the announcement list and receive an email whenever a new box is added to the letterboxing.org site.)
Finally, click the Add new box button and your clue should be added to the site.
If you ever need to change or delete the clue, log in to the site and go to the Member Services page to make changes to your letterboxes.
